In 1904 the blast furnace was blown in and had a capacity of 200 tons per day. There were three 40-ton open hearth steel furnaces, an electric power plant, three batteries of 40 coke ovens each, a coal washer, 20 miles of railway, 13 locomotives, 300 coal cars, 100 hoppers, flat cars, snow plows and flangers.
Repair shops at Sydney Mines were equipped to handle any of the heavy repairs necessary. They consist of Iron and Brass Foundry, Machine and Erecting Shops, Blacksmith Shop, Car and Pattern Shop, Round House and Boiler Plant.
The company owned and rented 650 dwelling houses at Sydney Mines and owned 8,000 acres of land.
A large general store with a warehouse was also operated by the Nova Scotia Steel and Coal Company for the convenience of their employees in Sydney Mines.
